  • Microsoft Called me?? Really?

    So Wednesday my phone rings and a man( heavy accent) said he was calling from Microsoft and there was a problem with my computer and it was sending out bad files. He said go to your pc and bring up this file--I said--How would you know my pc is sending out bad files. He said Madam  I'm from Microsoft--we see your files coming out you need to fix them. He told me what to bring up on my screen--the whole time I'm thinking--Microsoft picked you out of the whole world to call !. So I bring the file up-(with my always handy camera) snap a picture of my screen--He says--ohhhh bad files--now this it what I want you to do. I said--no I'm not--he said Oh yes-you have to--I said oh no I don't !!. About 3 more times he argued with me and told me they could see my computer was sending out bad files. 3 more times I said--I'm not changing anything--I don't know who you are !!!He finally hung up. So now ya'll know I must be a PRETTY important person for them to call me and know my home number huh??? Next I called HP had them check my pc out to make sure it was ok. The HP tech assured me Microsoft doesn't call you at home--ha--and I thought I was important. Just please be on notice if this scammer calls you.

  • I've not had a call like that, but lots of similar e-mails recently "from my cable company."  The customer service department knows me now, as I call them to report the e-mails!

  • @slmret - @slmret - @slmret - sure makes you wonder who thinks that stuff up doesn't it.

  • It is weird ! Many times I got calls but there was not anyone at the other end of the line .
    Anyway with the Internet we are known from every one , nowadays . It is rather worrying at time .

  • Yes, everyone has to be so careful these days with all the con artists running around. Glad you were able to get rid of him. Did a # come up on your caller ID? This is just sickening.

  • Trying to remember-I think it was a 800 or 866 number--I will have to go back and look-and yes it's awful the way they trick you-cause he sounded like he knew just what he was doing(and he did I guess--he was leading me down the wrong path !!)

  • Good for you. I had a scam call from someone who said he was with Social Security....and that would be getting a new card. I obtained as much information as I could. number, where he said he was calling from, and then I called Social Security and was assured that they never call you and you are never issues a new card. The only reason I didn't hang up immediately was because I thought perhaps I could "catch." them. Best to hand up.....scammers will not call back. Important callers will! Also if in doubt, get their number so you can call them back. This fellow would not give me his number only said that he was calling from Washington DC. Social Security offices are not in Washington.

  • @vexations -  Wow sad the stuff those scammers come up with. Glad you were smart enough not to give it to them but no telling how many gave them there ss number,

  • You have been so faithful keeping up with me the first thing I want to do is say "Thank you".  If I don't stay on the computer very long I'm ok.  But the doctors may have made a mistake.  At first they told me I would be in the brace 6 months, Feb 5th was the start.  So the target date should be August.  Now after begging they told me I could walk to the bathroom from the bed without it.  Ha!  Generally when I am in the house I don't have it on....it is as you say HOT!  Mostof the time I can get more comfortable without it, just takes practice.  Housework is the pits.  I worked all afternoon and got half of the living room picked up.  If I can get things at my fingertips like those hospital trays I can stay sitting down longer.  But I do get up to get something to eat or drink, let the dogs out, etc.  If I laid there all the time the nurse told me I would never heal right.  Brace goes on when I go outside, climbing into a pick up, even the toy ones, has become an art form.  I really think that things are progressing as they should and if I do make a mistake, I am punished with pain pills so strong I cant find my mouth, HAHAHA generally I cut them in half.

    Glad to hear the storms didn't blow you away.  There was one night that we listened to the sirens for an hour at least but the twister was about 4-5 miles south of us going east. 

    I am getting a little uncomfortable now so I will stop.  When I get easy I have two more blogs that I really want to send a personal message.  Take care,  We have only offically got two weeks to go.

  • @mommachatter - Bless your heart--I am so glad to know your getting better and I am sure you will be glad to get out of that brace for even an hour ! Take care of yourself and hubby and those dogs !!! Glad the storms didn't get near ya'll either

  • Ah, but you ARE important!  Microsoft, hmmm?  Wonder why he didn't tell you to "BING" him???

  • @Search4freedom -  I guess he calls and tells people to do that stuff and they just do it--I almost did !!!

  • I get those they are fake. They are alarming when you just download IE8 and it is screwed up. Never download off any place but microsoft but I couldn't get it to download from microsoft. Now my puter has to go in to the shop to take the fake IE8 off. I can't find it in add/remove
