  • Things

I'm slow on getting rid of all that stuff I told ya'll I was going to get rid of.  I look at things and remember when with it-then put it back. 2 of my Aunts always had the holiday dinners at their houses. They had all the crystal and tablecloths-cloth napkins--special bowls for each thing. I can look at those crystal bowls and remember which one had the crandberry sauce in it--etc--just hard to know what to do with it all. We only had a son--he doesnt want it--his wife didnt know any of these people( they died before she came along)  One of my sisters kids asked if they were worth anything !! well shes not getting them.Maybe I will just keep them and let son decide what to do when I'm gone.

Keep the memories-get rid of the stuff,,,,,,,,,,

  • We are dealing with that so much right now with doing the Trust and dividing things between the 2 kids and the 6 grandkids

  • It is a hard decision to make whether to keep something that has been in the family for years or to get rid of it.  I use to have quite a few items but now-not so many.  I do have a set of china that no one will ever use-including me but it belonged to my mother.  Guess I could just pack it all up and store it in the garage (along with other boxes that have already made it into the garage) so I'd have more room to store my stuff.  I don't know (it's a hard one).  Knick Knacks are a different story though I've gotten rid of most of them except for the ones I really like.  I've got a box of picture frames that I've collected and it's just sitting on a shelf in a closet!  On another note, I cleaned out a cabinet in the kitchen.  I had stuffed so much in there-found all kinds of lids with no bottoms and visa versa and plastic grocery sacks!!! Oh well-these are minor problems.

  • YOU SAID IT!!!!    Keep the memories, get reid of the STUFF.  Do you have a friend, by chance, who has an antique booth somewhere.  Get rid of it a few pieces at a time, and SPEND THE MONEY TO MAKE NEW PRECIOUS MEMORIES FOR YOU AND JOHN!!!

  • Won't let me correct my last comment.   It SHOULD have read get RID of the........

  • @TheSunnyC - @KarensPotpourri2 - @GrannyHummingbird - I guess we all have those problems and memories--I think the thing is I want someone to love this stuff as much as I do and it's not going to happen because the world has changed. Granny thats a good idea--John and I can sure make some memories-Karen--I just emptyed my cabinet of 10,000 plastic bowls and lids !!-Sunny-who would have thought it's so hard--sure makes me do some thinking about what I will do with my stuff --tell them to come get it now or I'm selling it  I guess !!!

  • I take pictures of these special items and then get rid of them. This way, I have a photo of it, the memory to go along with it, but the freed up space it occupied.

  • I have so many things like you mentioned.  No daughters!  I do have grand -daughters , but can't expect them to feel as I do about the things.  I will have to make some decisions.  Money sounds pretty good to me.  Like you, we could sure make some special memories with it.

  • I can so relate to the keepsakes for the memory.   Taking pictures as some one suggested sounds like a good idea.  But then I am so far behind on printing photos and putting the ones I have printed into albums..   I have 3 huge tubs of photo's that I took out of the old type albums in hopes of saving the pictures.  That was several years ago.. Can't seem to find the time to spread them all out and sort them for new albums.  My original idea was to make albums for my children with their own photo's in them.

Old paper records are one of my biggest hang ups, especially now that my memory seems to be going AWOL so often.  I started a spread sheet on the computer and went through old medical records, adding treatments, dates and the doctors name.   Changed computers and lost the file.. Still hoping to find it on a CD because I did try to move most of my records to CD's

  • @dianelub -Thats a good idea to back up the medical records--hadnt thought of that

  • We have also some furniture and earthenware coming from the ancestors . And what you write in your post, Maggie, is a real dilemna

  • I have the same trouble Maggie.  Hence, I got boxes all over the place.

Someday, I'll get to throw it out.  Thanks, about the colonoscopy thing,

I'm worried about it, as well as my creditors right now.  sigh.  Take care,

  •  Finally , what are your decisions about the " stuff" . It is hard because the " stuff" helps to  the memories to live again  in some cases .

  • RYC : You are right to not get rid of what accompanied your life , Maggie . Everything has a story and speaks to you
